- PhD title: New 3D graph visualizations for exploration of relationships intra and inter communities
- INUIT Theme 2
- Thesis dates: 12/2018 – 07/2022
- Supervision: T. Duval – L. Brisson
- Context/Funding: 100% ARED (with PEC label)
- General Goal:
- To study the contributions of immersive 3D visualizations compared to classical 2D visualizations for exploration and analysis of graphs
- Scientific challenges:
- To provide new ways to use the whole 3D space to display data that are usually displayed on a 2D mode
- To provide new ways to explore the 3D space and interact with the 3D visualizations with smooth transitions from both egocentric and exocentric modes
- Keywords: Immersive Analytics, 3D visualization, Virtual reality, Community graphs, Graph analysis
- Contributions:
- An exocentric visualization, which allows a user to manipulate a graph as an object, to intuitively visualize the centrality of the nodes by projecting 2D graphs onto different types of surfaces (half-sphere, cone, torus portion, etc.) to better explore the most central or least central nodes (WSCG 2022 article)
- An egocentric visualization with retraction of the graph display space which enables a user to have an overall view of the graph while remaining in egocentric mode (MDPI Information 2023 article)
