Abstract :
Diverse schemes of baseband digital pre-distortion (DPD) polynomials with memory have recently been studied at Lab-STICC to linearize a coherent optical OFDM emitter using an SOA as a power amplifier. Extended simulations based on a precise physical SOA model and some initial experiments have shown that it is possible to obtain significantly better performances with respect to bit error rate. However, these results have been obtained considering a relatively simple and a certain number of simplifying hypotheses. Thus, complementary research is necessary for effective, broadband CO-OFDM transmissions based on SOAs. In particular, the work presented during this seminar includes the question of the robustness of DPDs in the presence of optical front-end imperfections (noise, IQ imbalance, quantization noise, laser phase noise), as well as in the presence of uncertainties inherent to the components of the communication chain. Theoretical and experimental contributions are discussed throughout the seminar.
