The overarching theme of our research is the engagement of users of interactive systems: we are interested in intelligent human-system interaction which can adapt to, be personalized for, and capture and retain the attention of users.

The team is hoted at CERV.

Our team gathers computer scientists and cognitive psychologists around issues surrounding the characterization and modeling of engagement factors, the construction of systems able to provide compelling interactive experiences and the evaluation of the effects of such systems on users, keeping in mind ethical concerns related to persuasive technologies.

The two main themes of the team are:

  • Embodiment
    • Keywords: embodied cognition, embodied AI, socio-affective interactions, avatars
  • Cognitive transformation
    • Keywords: affective computing, learning, transformative experiences e.g. "for change" and computational narratives

Our research and results have mainly been showcased in the following domains:

  • Medicine and Health
  • Education and Training
  • Defense
  • Arts and Science, Culture and Heritage
