SERENADE - Surveillance, Study and Reconnaissance of the Marine Environment using Discrete Acoustics

-

The 8th edition of the SERENADE workshop (Surveillance, Study and Reconnaissance of the Marine Environment using Discrete Acoustics) will take place from June 22 to June 25, 2026, at the ENSTA Brest campus. The workshop focuses on observing marine environments using acoustics in innovative ways. Organized biennially since 2010, it structures the French community in this field and is intended primarily as a forum for discussion and reflection.

The topics covered encompass research and studies related to the processing and interpretation of active, discrete, or passive acoustic signals for environmental, civilian, or defense applications. The traditional themes of SERENADE are:

  • Technologies, instrumentation, and measurements
  • Physics, tomography, and geoacoustic inversion
  • Signal processing tools for underwater acoustics
  • Underwater soundscapes
  • Underwater acoustics applied to biodiversity observation
  • Acoustic observation of the environmental state, anthropogenic pressures, and impacts

For this 2026 edition, global changes will serve as the guiding theme for our discussions. A special cross-cutting session will be specifically dedicated to polar regions, which are areas particularly vulnerable to these changes.
